The expedition takes off with a pickup from Chay Lap Farmstay at 8:00 am and a transfer to Tan Hoa village. You’ll do a final check on gear and equipment at Tu Lan office prior to trekking. At 10:00 am, the trek gets underway with a hike across peanut and buffalo fields (2.5 km) to the Rao Nan River.
After crossing the river, the group will go through the first cave of this expedition called Secret Cave at 11 am. At camp, you’ll get settled and have time to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee before swimming into Ken Cave to the photo viewpoint where a famous picture of this cave was taken. There will be more time for swimming afterward at the small waterfall by camp, while our porter team prepares a delicious dinner.

You will either swim or boat out of the cave (exit mode depends on season/weather).
Hang Kim is next, and you’ll enter via the dry entrance, follow the dry passage to the underground river, and swim through the cave to exit into picturesque To Mo Valley. We will have lunch here from about 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Then, we will swim into Ton Cave, explore the dry passage and climb up the ladder to exit the cave.
It takes a further 2.5 hours to trek to La Ken Valley and then you’ll reach the Hung Dung Campsite (around 5:30 pm) where everyone can enjoy swimming in the natural pools. We went a 4 days / 3 nights tour on the Tulan Cave expedition in the month of June. Still amazed by how we accomplished the journey - we had to hike up steep mountains, step on razor sharp limestones, squeeze through narrow pathways, swim in the cave, abseil down the cliff, bath in waterfalls/rivers, sleep in tents, endure insects bites, and etc.. All I can say is the experience was totally out of the World. Every effort put in was rewarded with God’s wonderful and majestic creation..

I did the 4D3N Tu Lan Expedition Tour. This was my 3rd tour with this agency in two weeks after Hang Va and Son Doong. Yes, I did all expedition tours and I enjoyed all of them 110%. I found Tu Lan expedition to be a bit more challenging than Son Doong 4D3N Expedition due the fact that you need to cover more distance during the day, more water crossings and swimming in the caves. Camp sites are amazing. All are close to water where you can relax swimming after a day of trekking. Food is really good and the guides and porters super friendly and helpful.

Adventurers Only. This is a extremely tough trip involving lots of strenuous hiking, climbing, and some swimming. My wife and I have climbed numerous big mountains and backpacked deep into the wilderness before this trip. This was every bit as challenging. Everything about this was amazing. I ran out of words to describe the scenario after only a couple hours. The guides took great care of us throughout the trip. I have nothing but respect for this group. Even if you can only get out for one of the shorter trips I would highly recommend it.

Exceeded expectations on all levels. The caves are amazing, and the various photos online don't do justice to how incredible it is to be kayaking on a river inside a pitch black cave after abseiling into that kayak from a ledge. Positives - guides, tents, food (incredible food), scenery, no mosquitoes. Unexpected parts - there is a LOT of jungle trekking involved (very serious hiking up and down seriously steep hills in true wild jungle using narrow paths). You need to be fit. You WILL get scratched up and bruised. You WILL fall. Your feet will be wet for four days. Take band aids. Take antifungal cream (and use it from day two). Take non waterproof boots that drain (not Goretex) And if it rains, the slippery paths go from hard to outright dangerous. Be prepared. I would recommend this trip as one of the best hikes I've ever done. Finally - invest in a waterproof camera and small Gorillapod, and keep it around your neck. If you have to pack your camera into a dry bag for each swim/rain storm, you will miss out on 80% of the photo opportunities around you.

This was truly the highlight of our Vietnam trip. The 4 Day Tu Lan Expedition was everything promised. Including the effort to complete it. It was tough, but that made it all the more rewarding. The scenery and caving was fantastic, but was made even more so by the top-notch support crew. Everything from the safety briefing and arrangements through to the camping facilities were top quality. The guides and porters were also fantastic and really added to the trip. My brother and I both opted for the boots they provide (with our own insoles added) and were happy we did. The food was excellent and the crew went out of their way to ensure that my vegetarian brother had plenty to eat. February was still a bit rainy, but it was a great time to go as the weather was still relatively cool.
